Great Video. I wish I was going to GEN CON!
I picked up Turing Machine 2 years ago based on your preview and you %100 did not steer me wrong.
That’s great to hear! Hopefully the results this year are the same!
How do people like and enjoy games like this 😂
It's easy! Have a crazy brain!
What booth is kronologic paris 1920 going to be at Gencon
Hachette Board Games
Looking forward to We're Sinking!
stalk exchange looks like a fun family game
Yes it does! Although I hear there's more thinking than the light presentation suggests.
Stalk and stock are not pronounced the same. Stalk has an "aw" vowel sound. Stock has an "ah" vowel sounds.
Witness me!!!! 🛞
Thanks for the excelent video. Waiting for the next list for gencon.
Make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss it!
HiFI looks really good- i can,t find much info though. Thanks for the video
Getting a chance to see the cool action selection mechanism at Origins sold me on it!
Sounds like the most complicated convoluted game ever!!!
What is Clans of Midgard???
Find out here! greyfoxgames.com/products/worlds-of-midgard
This is a wonderful overview! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this!
I'm glad you liked it!
20:07 obviously you meant "action" not "turn". So it should be: "purchase always happens at the end of your ACTION. So at the beginning of you ACTION you could not buy"
How Set card rule 0* works? It says Faux diamonds sell for $0, but you play Faux Diamond at 9:37, and you gained $6. As I understand the rule, until one of the 0* is covered by the tracker, any faux diamonds worth $0, doesn't matter which is the led suit. 17:58 there is a same situation, blue tracker is on 0* but faux diamond was the first played unfortunately Also 25:12 Am I wrong?
How does the Sets 0* works? If set E says faux diamonds worth nothing the rule activates when 0* tracker and it's color activated, or until the tracker is on 0* if you lead with other suits the Faux diamonds also worth $0?
As far as the crates go it just depends on how often crates pop up on the dice for any given particular game. Our last game there was a lot of them so we accomplished a lot of those goals but our first two games there wasn’t very many of them. I think this is such a little perfect game that hardly takes up any table space. Great review!
Great review!
Thanks for the great review! I love deckbuilding
Art just changed from the old werewolves game but mechanics are still the same?
That Table toppers logo on the middle of the game is really distracting. If you have to use it, a corner would be much better.
You mean for the whopping 13 seconds out of the 15+ minutes of the video that it was in?
@@TheGameBoyGeeks it's in all your videos I've watched recently.
@@UlugNaar for 5-10 seconds on avg and they’ve been there for years on any review.
Great review! Thank you. Interested in this game. Looking at this one and Aquatica.
I’m excited to see reviews starting to come out for this game, because it’s also my most anticipated. I’m actually surprised you didn’t give it the serenade with how much you seem to like it.
Huge box, and I'm one in one out! Also there's enough setup and it's long enough that even with as much as I liked it, I don't think it would get out as often. Also as a reviewer I don't often get to play things many times after the review testing. SO I have to know it will get played a lot espeically if it's a bigger box.
I personally like the agony of having to discard a disk first. It seems like it will reward flexibility rather than the 'perfect plan' approach (which also appears to be supported by those trading goods changing rapidly) I think it will also give high priority to taking the first player marker. Not to mention the hilarity of hearing groans around the table when everyone discards the same number!
@thegameboygeeks thanks for the in-depth review! 🙌 I love this theme and style. The main concern is what you said at the end about the linearity of the game. Can you give me examples of other games that are linear worker placement games?
Hi! I won't try to speak for Dan at all here, except to say that the game is fairly linear in that there aren't a lot of differing paths to victory (those will start to come later, in expansions or stand-alone games in this universe). Everyone is trying to accomplish more or less the same thing here -- get a record deal, make money, play the largest venues, score sets and public bonuses. You can win without doing everything -- for instance, you can win without ever making it to the stadium, collecting any sets, achieving all your personal goals or even without getting a record deal -- but all rock bands vie for pretty much the same core things. I think Dan did a good job of highlighting things that may not be to everyone's taste.
@@JackieFox1976 that is for your quick response! I think me and my wife will love this game as she was a popstar in the early 2000s and she can relate to a lot of this. Plus the components look mint! 😍🎉
Jackie, Thanks for your comments here. Not all designers (especially their first baby) would be as understanding and kind about some critical aspects of a review. You're a great example of what I hope all designers could be (active in the forums and comments, and doesn't take things personal).
Question: If two players are tied in a bidding for a wizard, who wins the tie?
Best to use the link given in the description for more questions so the designer / publisher can chime in.
Looks like I want to play this one. But the candy-thing is ridiculous. It's drugs. And so the push-your-luck element is excellent.
"Sugar"
You only say that because you don't know how many Justin's Super Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups I eat each day!
That's some cool insider knowledge Jackie!
Thank you for your review of the game. You can absolutely play the game without the Events deck and you can if you want treat every candy as worth +1 craving and +1 action. The die roll represents increased risk and the fact that when you do something that gives you an advantage over others, you don't know when that little switch inside your brain is going to get flipped and trying to get through life without it becomes problematic. Too much of the game is built around that to take it out. But taking out the Events deck and treating every sugar rush card as +1 craving, +1 action won't impact the game much and will make it less random (if a bit less thematic) without impacting it all that much. So, feel free!
Hi Jackie! Congrats on your first published design! I love how passionate and involved you are as I've seen you responding to posts about the game! Love the thematic time you spent on this! You clearly took your time and thought through the experience! I hope to see you at Gencon! Thanks for your thoughts about my commentary!
@@TheGameBoyGeeks Thank you so much! Looking forward to meeting you at Gen Con.
As a vinyl collector and super music nerd, I cannot wait for this game!
Been looking forward to this one! I think you could solve the event card situation by taking out the ones that you aren’t a fan of. Definitely going to have to give this one a try.
Yes or leave them out all together. Definitely work arounds possible
@@TheGameBoyGeeks Absolutely - the events are there to enhance the experience of being in a '70s rock band. In the era before cell phones, a lot of planning could go up in smoke. Like drive all night in a couple of tiny rental cars and fall into bed (finally) at 7 AM for a few hours shut eye only to wake up at noon and find out your gig was cancelled because the headliner's drummer was in a car accident and broke his arm. I didn't put that in the game, but it happened to us. So... yeah... a day of planning can blow up. After you learn what the Events are, you know that if you haven't seen an Event yet, it might happen. If dislike that aspect of the game, the game will still work quite well without the Events or sugarless candy.
@@JackieFox1976 Hi Jackie -- amazing looking game! I love how the dials go to 11. I'm a big KISS fan and a board game designer myself (nothing published yet), so very excited to get this one. Kudos!
@@chumley307 Thank you so much! I look forward to playing your game(s) with you someday.
Clearly this is "nose candy" and you are pushing your luck not to do too much of it. Pretty sure they just didn't want their game to have coke tokens. 🤪
I don’t have the rulebook in front of me but it did mention I’m paraphrasing) that Candy represented a Candy bar, Coffee, or whatever gives you energy to take another action ).
Is the candy suppose to represent "drugs" being it's Rock and Roll theme? But being drugs is not a positive/controversial and make the the game not "kid friendly" they use "candy" to effect things like your blood sugar? Doesn't that promote diabetus or makes your character feel they have blood sugar problems all the while you giving/donating said blood? I did not have good sleep last night so perhaps I am totally looking at it too deeply and I am totally off base with my comment and overthinking?
I don’t have the rulebook in front of me but it did mention I’m paraphrasing) that Candy represented a Candy bar, Coffee, or whatever gives you energy to take another action ).
Thanks for the review, Dan! This one looks SO good in theme and that is what is pulling me toward it.
They definitely did a great job with the theme!
I had no idea that Time's Up had these layers! I'm glad they did family version because I'm not into pop culture - names and movies. This sounds like a lot of fun!
Give it a try Wendy!
My wife and I played Cascadia for the first time last weekend, we used Landmarks in that game. We thought the game was fantastic, we actually played twice (I would have played a 3rd time). For what it's worth, Landmarks seem like it was meant to be part of the game, there's no way we'll never play without it ...
In fairness adding landmarks be separate from the base gang allowed it to be approachable for non gamers and hence the Spiel Des Jahres win! I think the game is great without Landmarks but definitely adds some more depth for gamers
@@TheGameBoyGeeks I have no doubt that is true. Thanks for the video!
Very enjoyable game. A hidden gem.
Well done video as usual. I'm a little behind in playing this one but I noticed it is now on BGA. I always look for your videos first when learning new games! Thanks for a great tutorial!
You’re welcome!
This is a greeeeat game and a very different roll and write. People keep saying Knizia does the same stuff everytime but people who actually play a lot of his games knows how much he can pull out some neat stuff like this, Equinox, etc
I agree he does new things, but he also reiterates games with minor changes more than anyone else I think. But for example Axio is much better than Ingenius and’s Yellow and’s Yangzte is better than T&E! So As long as the reiterations improve upon the original I guess it’s ok :)
Is there a wee boy that I heard about on the secret Cabal podcast!?!? That aside, thinking I will pick this one up at Gen Con. Heard there will be an Indianapolis promo board.
Yes! That’s THE wee boy behind me! Been there since last year Origins after the Wee Boy Chris incident :)
@@TheGameBoyGeeks I never noticed, but just listened to the most recent episode so I think it was on my mind!
how many is a set of cards
all of these comments are from 4 or 5 years ago
those 4 cards are missing
Wow this looks cool. Have you played A Message From the Stars? Been our favorite word deduction game recently.
I have not played that one yet but I’ve heard good things. It seems like a lot more to teach to a non gamer in that one
It’s really not bad if the person likes logic / deduction. That is to say - the game has a somewhat niche audience. Likes word games and math puzzles. But does not need to be a gamer
Feels like more of a So Clover killer than Codenames. There's room on my shelves for all of them though!
The spatial aspect is much more codenames :)
Can you play this like the other dixits?
I guess theoretically you could
Thank you for sharing your Origins list! We're proud to have made your top 10 at such a great show.
I understand this is a family co-op game so I understand it, but for a light co-op game, I still don't understand the appeal... there's no strategy? Are you just trying to read the clue-giver's thought process and hope you get them right? Is the appeal that you learn how the clue-givers/players think? I think there are plenty of other games with the same idea but which plays more fun. This seems dry and lacking, in my opinion. Am I missing something? I get that SDJ awards are leaning more towards lighter, family friendly games, and this may end up winning it and why you picked it as a potential winner. I just don't see the why. Nothing against your review of the game--I always appreciate your insights. Just my thoughts.
The experience of talking through which city tiles belong next to other city tiles is more fun than it may appear. Also since you’re trying to guess what the mayor did and when you don’t guess the same the conversations as to why is what makes the game so fun.
Uiuiui the headline has me intrigued. Let's have a watch😅 Uhh I would love that. Hopefully we get that in Germany👍 BGG has a german version listed🥳
Fingers crossed!
If you like this better than Codenames, is this a top 10 game for you? Looks fun!
I love Codenames and least for now should be mentioned in the same sentence as Codenames. Time will tell if it stands the test of time like Codenames has. The cool twist in the tram game is that you can play off your opponents words which you can’t do in Codenames.
PAX Unplugged has attendance of over 30k compared to Origins of around 17k. Origins is definitely not the 2nd biggest tabletop gaming con in the U.S.
